SLRA strives to create an inclusive non-judgmental culture, foster belonging, and celebrate differences which then enables everyone to grow and thrive, continuing to appreciate and take account of the diverse needs of the community and understand how inequality shapes the lives of the people we work with. Our groups and classes provide opportunities for people of all ages to come together to make new friends, improve their English, share experiences and support each other.

Come to Community Hub on Thursdays mornings at 11am, followed by a free Community Lunch.

Attend ESOL class on Tuesdays during term time, 10.30am-12pm.
Community Hub is a space for people of all ages to come together to socialise, learn new skills, relax, tap into their creativity and to share information and experiences. The workshops are followed by a delicious free meal, cooked by the dedicated team of Community Hub Kitchen Volunteers. Activities vary from week to week and include yoga, drawing, rhythm and drumming sessions, sewing, clay workshops, Tai Chi, and sound baths. Facilitation of workshops by members of the Community Hub is encouraged and supported by our experienced facilitators.
Men’s Group meet each Thursday at 1pm, to talk, laugh, eat together and do activities, but most importantly, to sit together and share their stories and experiences of life, family, being a refugee, migrant, or asylum seeker within a relaxed and supportive environment.
As part of the Community Hub, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes are held every Tuesday during term time and cater for beginners through to intermediate and advanced. These classes provide a friendly, informal space for people to improve their English, make new friends, and grow in confidence.
Community Hub also offers volunteering opportunities for members of the community to get involved. Within the group, people can become Community Hub Chefs and Kitchen Volunteers, Community Hub Volunteers who help to set up the space for activities and welcome members as they arrive and collect feedback to better understand what members are looking for, or they can join the ESOL Volunteer Team on Tuesdays.
Community Hub members are also invited to join our monthly Community Leaders sessions. We believe that those with lived experience of the hostile environment must be central to the discussion of migration in the UK. Through our Community Leaders sessions we listen to and amplify the voices of the people we work with to demand justice in a system that seeks to harm and make them powerless. We do this by building connections, sharing experiences, raising awareness of the issues that affect migrants in the UK, campaigning and sitting down with decision makers. You can find more out about this here.
