First Display of the Women’s Group Community Quilt

Take your chance and visit the women’s group community quilt that many of the SLRA women group members have made last year during lockdown, at the Woodfield Recreation Ground.

We’ve already wrote quite several stories about our community quilt that helped many of the women through the difficult times when life stood still for a few months, people had to separate from friends and families, and everyone dealt with many other challenges!

Since sending out of craft kits to the women, sewing together online, collecting the final pieces, finalizing the whole community quilt, and unveiling it on International Women’s Day online over Zoom, our SLRA staff and some of the families could already see the quilt live. Thanks again to the hard work of our wonderful volunteers, especially to Tamara and Izzy who made this project possible!

Now, the community quilt is displayed for the first time at the Woodfield Recreation Ground.

Our quilt is part of Textile Art Exhibition Showcase at Art in Pavilion that is part of the Wandsworth Art Tringe. The exhibition takes place from the 3rd of July to the 18th of July (find address and opening hours below) and it displays arts and crafts from creative people from the local area and beyond. We feel really excited about being part of this beautiful exhibition and sharing our big community quilt with many people.

The Woodfield Recreation Ground is the perfect place for the first display of our community quilt as the SLRA women’s group and as well as other SLRA group will start their regularly face-to-face sessions at the community space in September. It’s a very open and caring place that hosts different activities for the community. For example, during the exhibition there will be the News Cabaret, a Plant Plot Hanger Workshop, a Wet Felting Workshop, and a drop-in session around sewing:

Programme:

8th of July 7pm to 9pm “The News Cabaret”: Join us for a free night of journalism, comedy and improv

10th of July 11am to 1pm “Plant Pot Hanger Workshop” 20 Pounds

10th of July 2pm to 4pm “Wet Felting Workshop” 20Pounds

17th of July 2pm to 4pm “Sew what” free drop-in session

You can find more information, other events, and regular classes as for example music toddler class or yoga on their website.

So don’t wait too long – just hop on your bike or on the bus and visit the Textile Art Exhibition at the Woodfield Recreation Ground. And we are sure you will be happy to not miss the chance to see our unique and first SLRA community quilt live.  Look at our flyer for our community quilt!
